If you want a complete review of your table tennis game, I recommend booking an intensive coaching day. This includes 5 hours of 1-to-1 coaching and will cover player analysis, shot technique, serve, receive, match-play and goal setting. It’s a great way of getting a lot of coaching in one go, and creating a development plan for the year ahead.
How it works
Analysis
We start with an analysis of your game. I will ask you to play a variety of different shots and also play a couple of games. This will give me a good picture of how you play and your strengths and weaknesses.
Technique
Next we will work on your technique. This might be developing new shots, tweaking the way you play existing shots or more fundamental technical changes. There will be a mixture of instruction and drills.
Serve
Then we will look at your service strategy. I will review the serves you currently use and suggest options for improvement. We will also look at one or two new serves that you can add into your game.
Receive
Next we focus on returning serves. I will help you read the service spin and play positive returns against a variety of different serves. We will also work on any serves that you find particularly challenging to return.
Match-play
Then we will focus on your match-play. I will help you develop some tactics to win more points and also help you with strategies to beat different playing styles (we will discuss which styles you find challenging, e.g. pushers, blockers, choppers, steady attackers, fast attackers, long pimples etc.
Goal setting
Finally, we will set a few goals for the year ahead. These goals will be entirely relevant to your current ability level and playing activity.
Summary and video
There will be a lot of information shared during the coaching day. It can be hard to remember everything which happens in the session. To help with this, I will provide a written summary of the key learning points and the goals for the year ahead.
I will also film parts of our session together. This is hugely useful, so you can watch back footage of yourself playing, plus the instruction that I give.
The video footage and written summary will be provided the following day.
Who is an intensive coaching day suitable for?
My intensive coaching days are suitable for players of any standard and any age. As long as you have a keen interest in improving, then I would be delighted to work with you.
It can be quite physically and mentally demanding, so you need to be confident that you can play for 5 hours. Don’t worry there will be breaks!
These sessions are designed to be once-per-year, rather than a regular occurrence. However, you are free to book as often as you want.
If you prefer shorter coaching sessions on a more regular basis, please look at my 1-to-1 coaching page. Or you might be interested in my group training camps.
